Our Principles
This collaboration brings together individuals and community groups working across cities, regions, and borders. We are united by a shared commitment to lawful civic engagement, human dignity, and responsible stewardship of community life.
Our work is guided by the following principles.
We reject violence and harm
We do not condone or promote violence, threats, intimidation, or destruction of property.
We also reject harassment, libel, slander, or dehumanizing language toward individuals or groups.
Disagreement and protest can be firm, creative, and effective without causing harm. We choose approaches that protect people, communities, and the integrity of the work itself.
We act lawfully and responsibly
We do not promote, plan, or participate in illegal activity.
Our efforts are grounded in lawful forms of civic engagement, including research, public education, advocacy, and participation in established democratic processes.
We recognize that durable change depends on credibility, transparency, and respect for the rule of law.
We uphold constitutional principles and human rights
We affirm the principles embedded in constitutional and human rights traditions, including due process, equal protection under the law, and the inherent dignity of all people.
These principles apply to everyone — including immigrants — regardless of citizenship or immigration status. Our work is motivated by the belief that rights are most meaningful when they are applied consistently and without exception.
We respect community autonomy and democratic participation
Decisions with profound human and social consequences should not be made in isolation from the communities they affect.
We support informed public participation, local transparency, and good-faith engagement with civic institutions. We aim to strengthen — not bypass — democratic processes.
We act with care, accuracy, and accountability
Information shared within this collaboration reflects lived experience, ongoing research, and lessons learned. Some material may be contextual, provisional, or under review.
We strive for accuracy, welcome correction, and recognize our responsibility to avoid misrepresentation or unnecessary escalation.
We work across boundaries in good faith
Our collaboration spans municipalities, states, and national borders because the issues we face do the same.
We approach cross-border cooperation with respect for local context, legal differences, and cultural norms, and we act in solidarity rather than substitution.
